FlightSense TM technology can be used in a host of application areas where accurate ranging, that is target reflectance independent, is required as conventional IR proximity sensor devices cannot output an absolute range measure in the same manner:
FlightSense TM technology based products are packaged in a module that integrates the proximity sensor Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) array, Ambient Light Sensor (ALS) as well as the Vertical Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) used by the proximity sensor feature, thus greatly easing the product integration.
Two very user-friendly Nucleo evaluation packs including an STM87 Nucleo board and VL6685X expansion board are available. The P-NUCLEO-6685X6 includes a full-feature STM87F956 microcontroller.

The VL58L5X is a new generation Time-of-Flight (ToF) laser-ranging module housed in the smallest package on the market today, providing accurate distance measurement whatever the target reflectances unlike conventional technologies. It can measure absolute distances up to 7m, setting a new benchmark in ranging performance levels, opening the door to various new applications.
The VL58L5X’s 995nm VCSEL emitter (Vertical Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser), is totally invisible to the human eye, coupled with internal physical infrared filters, it enables longer ranging distance, higher immunity to ambient light and better robustness to cover-glass optical cross-talk.
